1. Check that people can contact you

Before changing colours or investing in traffic, test the full journey. Open the website on a phone, choose a service and find the quote request. Review required fields, the keyboard shown and whether errors explain what to fix. Then send a clearly identified test and verify receipt at the destination.

Opening an email app is not delivery

A mailto link opens an email application. The visitor still has to send the message and may not have that application configured. It can be a useful alternative when labelled as email, but should not be presented as a received enquiry. Our initial review of our own websites found this distinction: the form prepared an email but did not store a server-side request. This illustrates why testing the destination matters as much as testing the button.

2. Review who arrives and on which page

If receipt works, review landing pages and the queries that show them. Search Console can show Google clicks and impressions for a verified property. Separate searches for your name from searches for your services. With few relevant visits, review indexing and content next. If relevant visitors do arrive, check whether the page addresses the job and area they need. Do not attribute a one-week change to a single cause without more context.

3. Make the offer answer a decision

A home painting page should explain which jobs are accepted, where they are carried out and what information is needed for a quote. Your own photos, an explained process and contact expectations help people assess the offer. A generic headline about “innovative solutions” does not answer those questions. One concrete, verifiable explanation is more useful than several sections repeating that the business is the best.

4. Count valid enquiries and sales separately

Define how spam, duplicates and tests are excluded. Record the date and source of each accepted enquiry, then whether it becomes an opportunity or sale. This prevents a click, call and contract being treated as the same event. The diagnosis should end with a concrete priority and a test that demonstrates the fix, not a list of decorative changes.
